Are continuing education units/hours required for LPNs?

There are no continuing education units/hours required for LPN licensure.  However, some employers may require a minimum amount of continuing education.

(For continuing education providers) How do I get approval?

Because continuing education is not required for LPNs, you do not need to contact our office for approval.

However, if you would like information on getting approval for an educational offering, you can contact the Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA), accredited as a provider and approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation (COA).

Contact LSNA at :

5700 Florida Blvd, Ste 720
Baton Rouge, LA 70806-4820
or by phone at: 225-201-0993 or 1-800-457-6378.

The Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners occasionally hosts/co-hosts educational offerings in the form of workshops and seminars.

Throughout 2004 and 2005, we offered a Geriatric Workshop which traveled throughout the state.

Future offerings will be posted on our website.  Flyers are mailed out to all LPNs with active licenses as the workshop/seminar approaches their area.
